Zimbabwe: Arrest of human rights lawyer Alec Muchadehama

The prominent human rights lawyer Alec Muchadehama has been arrested on 15 April. Alec Muchadehama has been involved in many of the court cases against Zimbabwean human rights defenders in recent years.

He was arrested by officers of the Law and Order Section of the police at the Rotten Row Magistrates Court on allegations of obstructing the course of justice. He has been transferred to Harare Police Station. The police alleges that Alec Muchadehama connived with a clerk at the High Court to secure the “unlawful release” on bail of Andrison Manyere and Gandhi Mudzingwa on 17 April 2009.
