Cambodia–Update: Appeal Court will hear the case of 13 jailed women human rights defenders from Boeung Kak Lake on 27 June 2012

On 15 June 2012, Deputy Director of the Appeal Court Seng Sivutha, announced that the court will hear the case of the thirteen human rights defenders on 27 June 2012 at 7:30 am.

The case of thirteen jailed women human rights defenders from Boeung Kak Lake (BKL) development site was the subject of a joint letter that Front Line Defenders with eight other regional and international human rights NGOs submitted to Prime Minister Hun Sen on 29 May 2012.

The thirteen women human rights defenders, namely Ms. Nget Khun; Ms. Tep Vanny; Ms. Kong Chantha; Ms. Srong Srey Leap; Ms. Tho Davy; Ms. Chan Navy; Ms. Ngoun Kimlang; Ms. Pao Saopea; Ms. Cheng Leap; Ms. Soung Samai; Ms. Phan Chan Reth; Ms. Heng Mom and Ms. Toul Srey Pov faced charges and were sentenced within 48 hours for their advocacy against forced eviction while their defence lawyers were denied time to prepare for the case.
