Your Excellency
I am concerned about the case of Fredy Peccerelli Director of FAFG the Guatemalan Forensic Anthropology Foundation, which carries out exhumations of mass graves, to return victims to their families and to find evidence tol bring perpetrators to justice.
In May 2007 Ana Dolores Arriola Carrillo and Miguel Angel Ruiz Corado of the FAFG were returning from the bank in Guatemala city when their car was intercepted by four armed men on unregistered motorcycles. The men ordered the staff members to give them the money and the weapon carried by the driver, although they were unarmed.
The two staff members were hit in the face and threatened. I urge you to investigate the threats against Fredy Peccerelli and to ensure that members of FAFG and other human rights defenders in Guatemala are able to work safely.
Yours sincerely
