Letter:

Your Excellency

I am concerned at the imprisonment of Saleh Kamrani and journalist Sa’id Metinpour currently detained in Section 209 of Evin Prison, Tehran. Both men are active in promoting the rights of the Azerbaijani minority in Iran.

I believe that Saleh Kamrani and Sa’id Metinpour have been imprisoned simply for their legitimate human rights work in defence of the Azerbaijani minority in Iran. I am also concerned that they have been tortured while in prison, to force them to make a confession.

I urge you to immediately release Saleh Kamrani and Sa’id Metinpour and also to take steps to ensure that all human rights defenders in Iran are able to pursue their work for human rights safely without fear of arrest or intimidation.

Yours sincerely
