DRC: Trade union member and human rights defender Mr Nginamau Malaba freed from incommunicado detention

Trade union member and human rights defender Mr Nginamau Malaba, arrested by the National Intelligence Agency (ANR) on 19 January 2009, was finally handed to the Office of the Prosecutor on 17 February.

Trade union member and human rights defender Mr Nginamau Malaba, arrested by the National Intelligence Agency (ANR) on 19 January 2009, was finally handed to the Office of the Prosecutor on 17 February.

The Office of the Prosecutor then transferred Mr Malaba to prison. Front Line welcomes the end of his incommunicado detention by the ANR, which will permit Mr Malaba to receive legal assistance. However, to date no charges have yet been brought against him.

Mr Malaba was arrested for denouncing misappropriation of public funds by the Minister for the National Economy and Commerce.
