Campaña por Mutabar Tadjibaeva

Mutabar Tadjibaeva es la Presidenta de la organización de derechos humanos Fiery Hearts Club, que tiene su base en la ciudad de Ferghana, en Uzbekistán. Es también una de las fundadoras del movimiento nacional Civil Society y fue nominada al Premio Nobel de la Paz en el 2005. Tadjibaeva ha monitoreado violaciones de los derechos humanos en el valle de Ferghana y ha elaborado informes sobre asuntos como la violación de los derechos de la mujer para el Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), una organización internacional no gubernamental que capacita a periodistas en el área de los derechos humanos. Mutabar Tadjibaeva debía asistir a una conferencia internacional sobre defensores de los derechos humanos en Dublín, en octubre del 2005, ofrecida por Front Line. Fue detenida el 7 de octubre, cuando tenía previsto volar a Tashkent para tomar un vuelo de conexión a Irlanda. El 6 de marzo del 2006, Tadjibaeva fue condenada a ocho años de prisión. Posteriormente, fue trasladada a un hospital psiquiátrico. India: Peaceful protesters arrested and detained

Seven human rights defenders and fifty other participants in a peaceful protest marking World Water Day were violently arrested in New Delhi, on 22 March 2007.

The protestors were arrested at the Planning Commission Office where they had requested an appointment with the Deputy Chair of the Planning Commission. Members of the police and Rapid Action Force reportedly used excessive force to arrest the protestors, which resulted in the tearing of some of the female protestors' clothes. The protestors were then taken to the Parliament Police Station where they were told to sign blank arrest memos. All of the male protestors and only two of the female protestors were presented before the judicial magistrate that evening, and were remanded in custody until 5 April 2007. The women were then taken to Chanakyapuri Police Station before they were all transferred to Tihar jail 23 March.  Read More

Somaliland: Front Line welcomes human rights defenders release

Yusuf Abdi Gabode, the editor- in -chief and Ali Abdi Dini, the editor of Haatuf Media Network detained in Mandera jail for allegedly insulting the President of Somaliland and his wife have been released following a visit to the prison by an international delegation, including the head of the European Union for Africa on 29 March 2007.

Armed police stormed the headquarters of Haatuf Media Network, in Hargeisa city, Somaliland on 2 January and arrested the Editor-in-Chief, Yusuf Abdi Gabobe and the Editor, Ali Abdi Dini. About forty police officers in uniforms and in plain clothes, armed with both side arms and AK 47 guns forcefully entered the building and ransacked the premises, beating up anybody who asked for an explanation or proper documentation and finally dragging both men from the building.  Read More

Preocupa la seguridad de defensor de los derechos humanos de Uzbekistán y su familia.

Según ha sabido Front Line, la salud de Mutabar Tadjibaeva, presidenta de la organización de derechos humanos Fiery Hearts Club, detenido durante siete meses en la unidad psiquiátrica de un centro de detención de mujeres se deteriora rápidamente, a la vez que se ha intensificado el hostigamiento hacia su familia.

Mutabar Tadjibaeva fue vista por su familia por última vez el 9 de enero del 2007, pese a numerosos intentos de visitarla en su lugar de detención. De acuerdo con lo dicho por Rasul Tadjibaev, su hermano, y su hija, Malillo Akramova, ha Mutabar Tadjibaeva ha perdido alrededor de 25 kilos y tiene problemas en el hígado causados por las condiciones y el frío de la celda de aislamiento donde se encuentra. El parte del médico jefe de la presión niega que su salud esté desmejorando y afirma que se encuentra “en buenas condiciones de salud”.

Las autoridades vigilan constantemente a Rasul Tadjibaev, quien además no puede regresar a su departamento desde el 22 de marzo del 2007. También recibió advertencias de que si persiste en protestar contra la detención de su hermana se le hará difícil continuar trabajando y será expulsado de Tashkent.  Read More

Human Rights Defenders - Too Dangerous For Human Rights

Front Line the International Foundation For the Protection of Human Rights Defenders was established to provide urgent protection to human rights defenders at risk. Front Line is concerned that while the the Human Rights Council debates the situation in Iran and Uzbekistan behind closed doors – on the ground, human rights defenders risk imprisonment, torture and even their lives.

Will the HRC seriously address the issue of the dangers to HRD in Iran and Uzbekistan?

On 4 March thirty-three women were violently arrested in Tehran – their offense - taking part in a peaceful protest against discriminatory legislation. The arrests were planned to ensure that there were no demonstrations to mark International Women's Day. While in prison they went on hunger strike and on their release a number of the women claimed that they had been ill treated.  Read More

Al-Haq Fieldworker Released from Administrative Detention

On 18 March 2007, Al-Haq fieldworker and human rights defender, Ziyad Hmeidan, was dropped off by the Israel Prison Service (IPS) at the Dahiriya (Meitar) checkpoint, south of Hebron, at around 14:15, marking the end of almost two years of detention without charge or fair trial. From the checkpoint Ziyad travelled to the village of Sa’ir, where he met briefly with a number of Al-Haq’s staff, before heading on to Bethlehem, where he was reunited with his wife and two young children. Ziyad’s release, similar to the entire process which arbitrarily deprived him of his freedom for 20 months, was marked by obstructions from the Israeli authorities.  Read More
