Bahrain: Human Rights Defender Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja trial adjourned - UPDATE

The hearing case against human rights defender and Front Line Protection Coordinator, Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja, has been adjourned until 14 April 2009. The travel ban preventing him from carrying out his human rights work has however not been lifted.

Further Information

The prosecutor requested to proceed swiftly in light of the seriousness of the charges, and requested to show a DVD containing a recording of the speech made by Abdulhadi on January 07 2009. The request for an adjournment was based on a challenge by the defence team to the constitutionality of articles 165 and 168 of the Penal on the basis of which he has been charged.
