Iran: Arrest of human rights defender, Jinous Sobhani

Jinous Sobhani, a human rights defender who worked as a secretary for two human rights organisations funded by Nobel peace laureate Shirin Ebadi, has been arrested. She was reportedly taken from her home in Tehran by Iranian judiciary security personnel. Her computer case, her mobile phone and her address book were all confiscated. The reasons for the arrest are unclear.

Further Information

Both human rights organisations for which Jinous Sobhani worked, Defenders of Human Rights and the Organisation for Defending Mine Victims, were closed down by the Iranian authorities in December 2009. The law office of Shirin Ebadi was also raided in the same month. Two computers were taken, as was information on Shirin Ebadi's clients and many files.
