Front Line's EU Office is seeking an Advocacy Officer - Location: Brussels
In order to develop its advocacy and lobbying work on behalf of human rights defenders at the European Union level, Front Line seeks an Advocacy Officer.
The Advocacy Officer helps develop the work of Front Line at the EU level. This includes the following tasks: sending appeals on cases of human rights defenders at risk, and tracking results achieved; undertaking advocacy and lobbying actions, in particular through the development of contacts with EU & member state officials, and human rights NGOs; organising visits of human rights defenders in Brussels. The successful candidate will have a relevant academic background, at least two years of human rights related experience, as well as sound knowledge of the functioning of the EU Institutions. He/She will be fluent in English and French (knowledge of Spanish and other EU official languages is an asset).
The position of Advocacy Officer is available on an initial one-year temporary contract, which may be extended to become an unlimited duration contract, depending on performance and funding.

Senior Protection Coordinator
Front Line is seeking an experienced human rights researcher/campaigner to take on this challenging new role. The Senior Protection Coordinator will lead Front Line's work with human rights defenders in at least one specific world region (Africa) as well as leading the overall development of Front Line's work to protect human rights defenders. The successful candidate will have at least five years experience of human rights related work and excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French. They will have demonstrated sound political judgment and the ability to deliver accurate and objective written information in a high pressure environment dictated by the need to respond urgently to threats against human rights defenders.. They will ideally have experience of working with human rights defenders and knowledge of the security risks that they face.
Salary according to experience. Assistance with relocation is available.

Key Tasks
- identify human rights defenders at risk and establish and sustain secure communications with them;
- undertake research on the threats and attacks that human rights defenders face, obtain information, verify it and generate appeals, reports and other related materials which can be used to generate action on their behalf;
- lead the development of Front Line's procedures to monitor and respond to threats and attacks on human rights defenders in coordination with other Protection Coordinators and interns;
- provide analysis and briefing papers on the threats faced by human rights defenders in specific countries and provide expert input to Front Line's advocacy, media work, training activities and small grants program;
- lead Front Line's monitoring and evaluation of our work to protect human rights defenders at risk;
Trial observation for Front Line
Front Line would like to invite applications from human rights defenders who would be interested in carrying out trial observation missions on behalf of Front Line in cases of human rights defenders at risk.
Candidates should have experience as human rights defenders, have willingness and availability to undertake trial observation missions on behalf of Front Line and have knowledge and experience of legal processes and systems.
